TORONTO, July 30, 2014: Brooks Sports Limited is pleased to announce elite Canadian athlete, Kate Van Buskirk, captured bronze in the women’s 1500m final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on July 29, 2014. Van Buskirk finished the race with a time of 4:09.41; just behind Laura Weightman of England (4:09.24) and Faith Chepngetich Kibiegon of Kenya (4:08.94).
“Kate Van Buskirk’s race at the Commonwealth Games was a culmination of years of hard work. We’re so excited to have been part of her journey and support her in achieving a long-time goal,” said Jenine LaFayette, Marketing Manager for Brooks Sports in Canada. “We can’t wait to show runners across Canada, men and women, young and old, that anything is possible. In our opinion at Brooks Sports, running is the best, and most addictive activity the world has ever known.”
This year, Van Buskirk continued to build on the momentum from her 2013 breakout season as she successfully defended her 1500m National Championship title in Moncton, NB. Before heading to Glasgow, Van Buskirk set a new Personal Record (PR) and broke the World A Standard with a time of 4:05.38 at KBC NACHT (KBC Night) in Heusden, Belgium.
Van Buskirk joined the Brooks Elite Team in 2011 and embodies the Brooks ‘Run Happy’ spirit perfectly. Before joining Brooks she was competing for Duke University where she was a 2-time All American. While Van Buskirk’s main focus is on the 1500m, she also competes in the 800m and 3000m distances. She has also been able to find success in road races, most recently she was the first female to cross the line at the year’s Around The Bay 5km race in Hamilton, Ontario and earned a new PR in the process.
“We’re so excited to be working with incredibly talented professional runners, like Kate Van Buskirk, who inspire others to Run Happy,” said Justin Dempsey-Chiam, Senior Brand Manager for Brooks Sports in Canada. “At Brooks, we are singularly focused on the run. It excites us to help Canadian runners reach for their dreams.”
