Fremont County – WY. The sights, sounds and scents of summer are unmistakable and they can be savored all over Wyoming’s Wind River Country/Fremont County. Whether about town or out in nature, wake your senses up, as you’ll need them once you start exploring. Print off our August Event Flyer and tuck it in your purse or pocket now for easy reference.
The big event for local
folks and visitors alike is the 103rd Fremont County Fair, Aug. 1-6.
It’s a week of full-blown entertainment that will surprise every member of the
family. Where else can you giggle at hilarious wiener dog races, see for miles from
atop the carnival Ferris wheel, marvel at top-notch quilt needlework and see
live birds of prey up-close? You can
also hear real rattlesnakes in a rattlesnake show, and feel the earth shake under
you at the popular PRCA rodeos, horse shows and Monster Truck show.
If your idea of vacation leans towards getting back to nature, you’ve also come to the right place. Escape the hustle and bustle of crowds and take a leisurely guided or self-guided trek to get off the beaten path and step back in time. Historic tours of the old Carissa gold mine, wild horse tours, botanical mountain hikes and ancient Indian petroglyph stories carved into rock walls await. Don’t forget your athletic shoes, as you might also need them for several trail and fun-run races.
Towns across Wind River Country offer live dancing and music all month long. Hold hands and dance in a real Native American friendship dance offered each week, or watch the pros at a powwow. Pack a picnic basket for the park concerts, and pack your cowboy boots (or buy them here) to fulfill that childhood dream of learning how to square dance like they do in the movies. If you can’t fit everything in, just make plans to return next summer!
