Safeguard Self Storage initiates expansion in the Chicago self-storage market with the purchase of land for its newest location in a very densely populated area of Chicago, Illinois. Safeguard closed on the purchase on December 20, 2013 to develop its 67th store nationwide and will be just a few miles north of its Wabash Avenue store in Chicago. The 51,775 square foot self-storage facility will offer this Chicago neighborhood 717 storage units in a variety of sizes, with modern security features and many amenities. See photos to the right of the land showing its location just north of the downtown area of Chicago, and a rendering of the planned best-in-class self-storage facility.
Safeguard currently has ten stores in the Chicago market already and has yet another piece of land presently under contract and expected to close in January 2014 in addition to this West Rogers Park location. That purchase, when completed next month, will bring to 12 the total number of stores the company intends to operate in Chicago. As is typical of Safeguard's 63 open stores nationwide, the West Rogers Park self-storage facility will be designed with security, convenience and customer service in mind. Amenities at this location will include: heated and air conditioned space, a convenient drive-up loading area, computer-controlled access to the building and digital\video recording of the property.
"The West Rogers Park store, like all of our Chicago facilities, will be designed to provide an exceptional customer experience. This new facility will complement our product offering in Illinois and demonstrates our commitment to, and confidence in, this burgeoning market. The design of the façade of this store has been modified and upgraded to fit in with the neighborhood the company is joining. As many already know, we have another piece of land under contract at this time just south of the West Rogers Park property on which we expect to build an even larger store next year. Today’s purchase of land at California Street, just north of downtown Chicago, and the purchase next month of the “Uptown” land, on North Sheridan Road are both expected to have stores opening in 2015." said Jim Goonan, Senior Vice President of Development.
