Legendary Belgian manufacturer to debut on U.S. soil at New Mexico Stage Race
February 17, 2015 (Silver City, N.M.) - DECCA will be the official jersey of the 2015 Tour of the Gila bicycle race and will supply the professional men’s and women’s Race Leader Jersey, Sprint Jersey, King and Queen of the Mountain Jerseys, Best Young Rider Jersey along with Race Leader jerseys for six amateur men and women categories. The pro jerseys will be awarded to the respective category leaders during the podium ceremony following each day of racing.
“As race director, I am excited to bring this heritage and highly reputed European brand to Silver City,” said Jack Brennan. “DECCA has outfitted some of the most courageous riders in the history of the sport and the company’s heritage is befitting of what it takes to be in a leader’s jersey at ‘Gila’ – tenacity, courage and passion.”
DECCA knows elite cycling and they sponsored some of the world’s best teams and riders including 2014 Milan-San Remo winner Alexander Kristoff and 2013 World Tour winner Joaquin Rodriguez, both of the Katusha Pro Cycling Team.
Founded as a family knitwear factory in Zottegem, epicenter of the Flemish Ardennes, Belgium in 1930 by August De Clercq, DECCA shifted its focus to cycling in 1970 during the era of Belgian icon Eddy Merckx and the brand has supplied European-based teams ever since.
Nowadays DECCA is collaborating with the Leopard Development Team from Luxemburg. These talented, young riders are poised to make the big step in the future towards the Pro Tour circuit. DECCA is also supplying winner jerseys to various events like Crocodile Trophy in Australia, Tour of the Alps in Austria, Bianchi Tour in Italy, and many others.
“With the growing amount of clothing manufacturers emerging in today’s market, DECCA remains one of the last few cycling apparel brands who is still making clothing locally,” said DECCA Marketing Director Thierry Eeckman. “DECCA is made in Belgium, by Belgians.”
The development and production of highly elastic and durable fabrics, water and dirt repellent coatings and treatments, fully customizable patterns and superior chamois comfort cycling clothing has allowed DECCA to maintain a place in the major league of European cycling clothing manufactures.
The Tour of the Gila stands firmly in the top tier of North American stage races. Top cyclists head to Silver City, New Mexico to push their personal limits while discovering new heights in the sport. Just as the riders lay it on the line to become legendary, DECCA built a legendary reputation by constantly testing the boundaries of what technical fabrics can do. The pairing of DECCA and the Tour of the Gila is a natural fit.
The 2015 Tour of the Gila will cover five stages April 29 - May 3 in and around Silver City, New Mexico.
