Crowdfunding Socials to Take Place for Selven O’Keef Jarmon’s 2016 Installation
“360 Degrees Vanishing” -- a permanent public art piece at Art League Houston
“360 Degrees Vanishing” South African-themed Crowdfunding Socials at Boheme
Together with Art League Houston and Boheme Cafe & Wine Bar, creative activist, artist and fashion designer Selven O’Keef Jarmon toasts South African art, food, wine and culture with a series of socials in support of his upcoming public art installation, “360 Degrees Vanishing.” Boheme has agreed to generously donate a portion of the proceeds to help fund the art project.
Furthering Boheme’s commitment to artists and the community, the 4-week series of Wednesday night socials kicks-off on March 23rd with a South African-inspired pop-up dinner by Chef Yana Gilbuena and music by Josh Zulu. Chef Shakti Baum of Etta's Little Kitchen will close the series on April 13th.
These socials open the door for supporters to participate in the final phase of getting this work installed by crowdfunding this effort as they enjoy fine South African wines from BranWar Wine Distributors, culinary delights by guest chefs and peruse an artisan pop-up shop.
ABOUT 360 DEGREES VANISHING
The project will consist of installing a tapestry of beadwork constructed by South African artists-in-residence and over 1,000 volunteers to the exterior walls of the Art League Houston building in the Montrose neighborhood. This beaded sculpture is a permanent public art piece that changes the complete exterior of the Art League campus. The implementation process of Jarmon’s visionary journey began July 24, 2014 with the first group of South African beaders arriving to Houston. Over a 1-year period, 16 South African beaders beaded with over 1,000 individuals from the greater Houston area ranging in age from 5 to 93. The tapestry is now completed and the focus is on getting the work installed the Fall of 2016.
Through “360 Degrees Vanishing,” the former Johannesburg resident aims to address vanishing cultural practices and shine a light on overlooked inherent privileges taken for granted in cultural spaces especially creative and collective work spaces. In addition, he hopes the installation will foster a spirit of social entrepreneurship among the artisans and lay groundwork for further artist exchange and collaborative cultural programs.
