NORTHWEST-BASED AUTHOR RELEASES FIFTH NOVEL IN MARITIME SERIES

The Chilean Corvette, by Les Eldridge, is now available nationwide, online and in select bookstores

Olympia, WA –
Nationally renowned maritime history author and lecturer Les Eldridge has just released his fifth novel in a series on the American Civil War at sea and beyond. Eldridge’s writings reveal ‘seldom-told tales’ based on true historic events.

“I’ve read all of O’Brian, CS Forrester and Richard Henry Dana. Eldridge’s efforts are definitely worthy of the genre,” said Russell Lidman, Professor Emeritus, Seattle University.  “The history is informative, the plot line is engaging, and the characters breathe.”

The Chilean Corvette highlights the post-war Confederate exodus, and tells of an actual war between Spain versus Peru and Chile, with Rebel leadership for the two Latin American navies. “I can feel the action, tension and strategies playing out,” said Lawrence Goodman, the former International VP, American Federation of State Employees, about this latest book in the series. Others have said the fireship scenes are spectacular, drawing the reader in with infernos evocative of Italian exploding torpedo boats in WW II.

Eldridge began writing the series because of his father’s service in the navy in WW II. “My dad started me reading C.S. Forrester’s Hornblower novels at age eight, and I was hooked,” he explains. “I taught maritime history at the college level for many years.  I would tell my family of this story I was developing, knowing that it would be written during my retirement years,” he adds.

Since 2008, Leeward Coast Press has published and sold thousands of Eldridge’s books in the series:
The Chesapeake Command
- 2008
Gray Raiders, Green Seas
–2007
The Wake of the Woonsocket
- 2008

The series, and The Chilean Corvette are available on Kindle and Nook and can be purchased online directly from www.eldridgeseasaga.com.
