May Prairiefire happenings: Cinco De Mayo celebrations, Mother’s Day Brunch, Summer Concert Series and more

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 30, 2019) – Prairiefire, located at 135th street in Overland Park, is kicking off May with a full calendar of events to look forward to!


May events include:


Coco Bolos Cinco De Mayo – May 4 – 5th

Join Coco Bolos for its Cinco De Bolos celebration on Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th! Guest can enjoy food and drink specials all weekend long, including $20 margarita pitchers and $15 Modelo pitchers. Teacher Appreciation Week at Grimaldi’s Pizzeria – May 6th – 10th

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria will be offering 15% off for all teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6 – 10. Teachers must present ID to redeem offer. Fat Brain Toys Toddle Tuesday with Emler Swim School – Tuesday, May 7th from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Bring a towel and get ready for a big splash of FUN! Swimming experts from the Emler Swim School will be bringing the excitement of water play and swimming lessons right into Fat Brain Toys. Guests can dive into a variety of water sensory activities and then learn all about water safety through fun and play.


The Grooming Project at Eve Reynolds Fine Arts Gallery – Thursday, May 9th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Join Eva Reynolds Fine Arts Gallery and The Grooming Project by EPEC on Thursday May 9th from 5:30 – 7:30pm. The Grooming Project breaks the cycle of poverty by teaching at-risk parents the skill of dog grooming. Meet the founder, Natasha Kirsch and learn how the project is changing the community. Pinstripes Mother’s Day Brunch – Sunday, May 12th

Join Pinstripes for its Mother’s Day brunch! Science Happy Hour at Museum at Prairiefire – Wednesday, May 22nd at 6 p.m.

Join the KU Life Span Institute and Dr. Janis Bulgren at the Museum at Prairiefire for a Science Happy Hour on May 22! In 100 years, teaching tools have moved from using slates and blackboards to white boards and tablets, and more recently, cloud-based or online learning. At the same time, learning outcomes have changed from testing students on knowledge of facts to evaluating reasoning and collaborative understanding. Janis Bulgren, University of Kansas research professor, will discuss the research behind adapting to these challenges in the classroom. She will discuss pioneering ways students can organize information to prime them for applications of higher order reasoning, and how a Google app helps teachers and students unlock new ways of learning. Fat Brain Toys Toddler Tuesday with Stepping Stones – Tuesday, May 28th from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Come and enrich your mind with music! Stepping Stones KC will be at Fat Brain Toys to make learning more fun through singing, movement, and instrument-play. No matter the age or skill level, kids are in for a valuable experience.
