Prairiefire happenings: Summer Music Series, Night at the Museum Gala and more planned for August

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 31, 2019) – Prairiefire, located at 135th street in Overland Park, is kicking off August with a full calendar of events to look forward to. From free outdoor concerts to a night at the museum, there is something for guests of all ages to enjoy at Prairiefire this month.


August events include:


Commerce Bank Summer Music Series – Every Thursday from 7 pm – 10 pm

Commerce Bank presents Summer Music Series at Prairefire. Every Thursday night, guests can enjoy free outdoor concerts by local artists from 7 – 10pm. The Stanford Ocean Acidification Experience at the Museum at Prairiefire – Through August 31st

The Museum at Prairiefire has partnered with Stanford University to investigate the affordances of Virtual Reality (VR) in education using the Stanford Ocean Acidification Experience (SOAE), a VR piece developed by the Virtual Human Interaction Lab (VHIL) at Stanford University. SOAE is an educational experience that makes the impossible possible! Through this VR experience, participants will be able to learn about the causes and the consequences of ocean acidification, as well as actions that can be taken to reduce CO2 emissions. Meet the Astronaut: Mike Massimino – Saturday, August 3rd from 12 – 5 p.m.

Join The Museum at Praireifire and Johnson County Library on Thursday, August 1st and meet Mike Massimino. Massimino is an astronaut, the first person to tweet from space, a recurring character on the hit TV show “The Big Bang Theory,” and now a New York Times bestselling author. Our Favorite Friends Art Show at Eva Reynolds Art Gallery – Saturday, August 3rd from 12 – 5 p.m.

Crunch & Brunch at Pinstripes – Sunday, August 4th from 9 – 10 a.m.

Night at The Museum Gala – Saturday, August 24th from 5:30 – 11 p.m.

Join the Museum at Prairiefire for its annual Night at The Museum Gala on Saturday, August 24th. Support of this year’s event will enable the Museum at Prairiefire to provide thousands of under-served students, partner organizations and educators throughout the Kansas City area with KC Urban Advantage programming.
