Prairiefire happenings: Liberty Bell 7 Exhibit, Tour de BBQ, Yoga at the Museum and more planned for September

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (August 30, 2019) – Prairiefire, located at 135th street in Overland Park, is kicking off September with a full calendar of events to look forward to. From free outdoor concerts to the Liberty Bell Exhibit, there is something for guests of all ages to enjoy at Prairiefire this month.


September events include:


Commerce Bank Summer Music Series – Every Thursday through September 19th

Commerce Bank presents Summer Music Series at Prairefire. Every Thursday night, guests can enjoy free outdoor concerts by local artist Flashback from 7 – 10pm. To view the full concert schedule, please visit www.visitprairiefire.com/events.


Liberty Bell 7: The Peril & Promise of Space Exploration - In partnership with the Cosmosphere On exhibit at The Museum at Prairiefire now through January 31, 2020

Join the Museum at Prairiefire for its Liberty Bell Exhibit now through January 31st! The Space Race and the ultimate United States victory in reaching the moon began with a spacecraft designed for one human. The Liberty Bell 7 is one of those spacecrafts. The story of its mission, and its recovery after 38 years on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, is fascinating. Using the actual Liberty Bell 7 spacecraft as its foundation, this exhibit sheds light on how America’s first astronauts were selected and how they prepared for the unknowns of travel to space. Permian Monsters: Life Before the Dinosaurs at the Museum at Prairiefire

Step back in time 290 million years when bizarre-looking animals dominated life on land and sea and find out about the greatest extinction the world has ever seen in Permian Monsters: Life before the Dinosaurs. This unique exhibition brings the past back to life with fossilized skeletons and full-size life models of the animals that ruled the world millions of years before the age of dinosaurs, in a time known as the Permian. The Tour de BBQ – Saturday, September 7th starting at 7 a.m.

The Tour de BBQ, which will be held on Saturday, September 7th. It is a “tour” – not a race – where riders choose between routes of 12, 35, and 62 miles. The rest stops for each route are some of Kansas City’s most famous barbecue restaurants where riders are provided a sample of that restaurant’s offering. After cyclists complete their route, they’re greeted with frosty beverages, more barbecue and a free concert. Funds raised support The University of Kansas Cancer Center Survivorship Transition Clinic – a program for young adult survivors of pediatric cancer. REI Yoga at the Museum at Prairiefire – Starting September 8th, every Sunday from 9 – 10 a.m.

REI has teamed up with CorePower Yoga to bring you a completely free weekly yoga class held at the Museum at Prairiefire. held. Extra mats are provided by CorePower Yoga and each participant will receive a sample from Skratch Labs, and coupons from CorePower Yoga, REI and CocoBolos. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. These weekly classes will help set the tone for the week or guide you in developing a practice at home. Trivia Nights at Pinstripes – every Tuesday from 7 – 9 p.m.

Join Pinstripes for Trivia Nights every Tuesday starting at 7pm! Trivia is free to play but you must reserve a ticket. Trivia themes include:
