Following their footsteps

(Cody, Wyo.)- How big is that track? Yellowstone’s cougar project kicked off their third winter field season January 4th. The project focuses on estimating cougar population, documenting predation patterns, occupancy and individual age and sex on the northern range. The study relies primarily on non-invasive track surveys, DNA analysis, and remote camera images. The team will also capture and tranquilize six adult cougars to deploy GPS collars. This study follows in the footsteps of other cougar studies in Yellowstone’s northern range that estimated there were 26 - 42 cougars after wolf establishment. #reboot #news Feature Image h/t Yellowstone National Park
