MCT Leads Locals to Life on the Stage

(Cody, Wyo.)- The Missoula Children's Theatre has been putting on productions for communities in the Big Horn Basin for years and has impacted the lives of many Basin children. Reboot spoke with a couple of local thespians about their experience with MCT and how it propelled them into pursing the arts as adults. Daniel Cummings of Powell is an actor from Powell currently works as an actor in Los Angeles. He is best known for his role as Taylor Wallace on General Hospital, and has credits in movies such as Captain America: Winter Soldier, and The Maze Runner. "The Wizard of Oz with MCT was my first experience with acting, I was a flying monkey. Now I live in LA doing it full-time, so it must've had a lasting effect! I would say the biggest effect that MCT had on me was that it was the first time that I felt the creative energy that comes from the sort of built-in collaboration that theatre entails. Putting a production together in the space of a week, people running around fitting costumes, rehearsing music, setting lights; there's an energy there that I've never found anywhere else outside of the theatre, that feeling that once the curtain goes up, we're all in this together. With theatre, it's so live and visceral; it's you, your cast mates, the crew, the director, and the audience all in the same room, and whatever happens is going to happen. There's such a tiny margin between greatness and disaster, it's honestly one of the greatest rushes I've ever felt. And of course I'd be lying if I didn't mention that when you're a 9 year old on a stage and you can get a house of 800 people to laugh, there's a little corner of your ego that's going to seek that out again." "Missoula Children's Theatre has had a tremendous impact on my life. I not only performed in the shows when they came to Powell in elementary, middle and high school, but also attended the summer performing arts camp at Flathead Lake for 8 years in a row. MCT helped me determine my career path, both as an actress and now theatre educator in New York City. I owe so much to the program that introduced me to my love of theatre. I'm not sure they would have ever known, that their visits changed the course of my life!" [image: michelle.jpg] So get ready all you young actors and actresses!
