Homelessness count slated for the 27th

(Cody, Wyo.) - 798 people were listed as homeless in Wyoming last year. Out of those, 507 were sheltered and 291 were un-sheltered. Those are the homelessness statistics for the Cowboy State. And while the numbers seem small the number is on the rise. In 2014, the number homeless was at 757. With 563 persons being counted as sheltered and 194 un-sheltered. Wyoming's Annual Homeless Point in Time Count will be taking place on January 27th. Across Wyoming agencies will take their annual count of homeless individuals and families in their communities. The annual event, is an accounting of the people in a community who are experiencing homelessness. It includes individuals in both sheltered and unsheltered populations. The count will be taking place in every county and for every city or town fin Wyoming. This effort is being lead by the Wyoming Homeless Collaborative and Continuum of Care, a program affiliated with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The statewide counts play an important role because grants are awarded based on overall numbers and accuracy. Anyone experiencing homelessness in Big Horn County can be counted at the Wyoming Family Service Department offices in Lovell and Greybull.
