Powell MakerSpace to open Saturday

(Powell, Wyo) You can get a first-hand look at the new MakerSpace during an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The MakerSpace is located at 328 E. Third Street, in the old Home Ec Cottage across from Powell Middle School and Powell Branch Library. To define it simply, the MakerSpace is a community center with 21st century tools. “The MakerSpace will provide residents in Powell and surrounding areas with access to technology and experts that no other community in Wyoming has,” said Judith LaPlante, chair of the Powell MakerSpace. “We’re excited for the community to see everything available at the MakerSpace.” Residents of all ages will have access to equipment and technology that is normally out of reach for individuals. The MakerSpace will offer classes on robotics, 3D printing, electronics, laser cutters, computer programming, drones and more. “The MakerSpace is designed to inspire creativity and innovation,” LaPlante said. MakerSpaces exist around the United States and throughout the world, building on the Maker Movement that started in the early 2000s. MakerSpaces provide a place for experimentation, collaboration and idea prototyping. Individuals, families, students and groups can have access to the Powell MakerSpace through memberships or guest passes. For youth and adults alike, the MakerSpace will provide classes and programs in a place that is fun, safe and intellectually engaging. The MakerSpace is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Agricultural Rural Development Program and a donation from Rick and Judith LaPlante. #reboot #news
