NWC to tighten belt in the face of falling revenue

(Wyoming) - Northwest College President Stefani Hicswa sent an email message to the campus community early this afternoon. The title of the email was "Northwest College’s process to significantly reduce the college’s 2016-17 fiscal year budget." The content of the email is as follows: *Earlier today VP [Vice President of Administrative Services Lisa] Watson and I held a meeting with our budget managers. Unfortunately due to state funding following the legislative session and estimated local mil assessments, we are projecting a revenue shortfall of $2 million in the college’s general operating fund and a $350,000 shortfall in the 1 mil fund for next year. * *VP Watson will distribute detailed reports to the budget managers outlining budgets and expenditures for the past 5 years and give them specific dollar amounts for their areas to reduce. I have asked that recommendations for reductions be submitted by April 15th. * *It is important that we all work together to make the best decisions for the long-term sustainability of the college. I appreciate your support while we work with your budget managers as we go through this difficult process.* The NWC Board of Trustees heard proposals Monday night on how to combat this large drop in revenue for NWC. Some of the proposed measures to increase revenue included decreasing the the number of tuition free credit hours and raising tuition or fees for NWC students. #reboot #news
