Cody's Matt Hall announces mayoral candidacy

CODY, WYO. — Citing the need to adopt new approaches to deal with budget shortages and other challenges facing the city, real estate agent Matt Hall announced that he will seek election as mayor of Cody. "I have a real passion for this community and I love the unique and wonderful Cody lifestyle it offers," Hall said. "I also realize we will be confronting several issues in the near future that will require decisive leadership and innovative ideas." Hall is the first candidate to announce for for the Cody mayoral seat. It is unclear at this time if current mayor Tia Brown will seek re-election. A lifelong Cody resident, Hall says he has served in leadership positions on numerous community boards and committees, including the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale, Shoshone Recreation District, Park County Historic Preservation Commission and Cody Medical Foundation. He also has a degree in economics from the University of Wyoming. "The recently concluded budget session in Cheyenne made it clear that cities will see significant and lasting reductions in revenue from the state, all while we continue to struggle during a downturn in the minerals industries," he said. "There are ways we can diversify our local economy and tap into the broader tourism base that other communities are enjoying, while still maintaining our unique Cody identity and quality of life," he said. He cited his four years as a Republican party precinct committeeman and active role in several community boards and nonprofits as good experience for bringing parties together to resolve complex issues. #reboot #news
