(Yellowstone National Park, Wyo.) - "2016 begins" yelled Yellowstone National Park Ranger Dennis Lenzendorf this morning at 8:00 a.m. as the East Gate to Yellowstone officially opened. Dennis welcomed the first car, from Park County, with a warm smile and "Welcome to Yellowstone!" As of 8:00 a.m. there were about 30 cars lined up awaiting their entrance. A few campers, two school buses, several out-of-staters, and a fair number of locals made the line-up. One Cody family said they come into Yellowstone every Mother's Day weekend. Their boys Beau and Dalton were elated! As we took his picture he asked, "Why is there such a big line today?" We had a little chuckle together, and we explained that it was opening day. Things went smoothly for the Park staff, and there were a lot of happy people (and animals).
