(Cody, Wyo.) - On Thursday, May 26th at 4:19 p.m., the Park County Communications Center received a report of a car-train collision at the railroad crossing on County Road 2AB just east of Highway 14A.  A sheriff’s deputy as well as the Cody Fire Department and West Park Ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the deputy observed a 1996 white Mercury four door passenger car sitting off of the right side of the railroad crossing.  The driver, Raymond Karpi Lawrence, age 42 of Powell stated that he was driving eastbound on Road 2AB approaching the crossing when he collided with the moving BNSF train.  Lawrence admitted that he failed to look to the north prior to entering the crossing and therefore did not see the approaching train.

Lawrence, who was uninjured, stated his speed was approximately 35 miles per hour at the time of the collision. The train was moving south at approximately 25 miles per hour.  His vehicle sustained significant damage to the front end and the vehicle’s airbags did deploy. Lawrence was cited for failing to stop at the railroad crossing with a train plainly visible. #reboot
