City of Cody warns of utilities scam

(Cody, Wyo.) - According to the City of Cody website, there have been reports of attempted phone scams recently. Scammers are calling Cody residents and claiming to be the City of Cody—with a caller ID also indicating the same—and notifying customers that their City utilities (i.e., water, electric, etc.) will be shut off if immediate payment is not made over the phone. The City of Cody's procedure is to first mail a letter to the customer. If an overdue payment is still not paid one week following the letter, the customer will receive an automated call from the City. The City of Cody will never call a customer and demand payment immediately over the phone. For questions or concerns, please contact City Hall at (307) 527-7511. *Feature Photo: h/t Pixabay / Pitchengine Communities* #reboot #news
