Volunteers Sought to Help Excavate Heart Mountain Site

(Cody, Wyo.) The Park County Historic Preservation Commission in partnership with the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center is leading an archaeological excavation at Heart Mountain June 18-25, and the public is invited to participate. "We are inviting friends and neighbors to be a part of the continued discovery of the historical significance of Heart Mountain," said the foundation's Executive Director, Brian Liesinger. Volunteers will help archaeologists survey, map, and excavate the grounds on which once stood two original root cellars at the Heart Mountain WWII Confinement Site. The remaining root cellar (pictured above) is near the site of a collapsed one scheduled to be partially excavated during the Heart Mountain Archaeological Exploration Week. There is no experience required for the expedition, but you must be available from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the days you volunteer. There will be a lot of walking and digging. A full schedule of events is available here . You can register to volunteer here . #reboot #dally #county17 #news
