BREAKING: Lyman Woman Drowns in Irrigation Canal

(Cody, Wyo.) – On Saturday, July 2, 2016, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Park County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a report of a female subject who was found in an irrigation canal in the 200 block of Lane 16 east of Cody. Sheriff’s deputies as well as West Park Ambulance and Cody Fire Department were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Christine Fairbourn, age 26 of Lyman, Wyoming had apparently drowned in the canal. Witnesses at the scene reported that Fairbourn was at a barbeque earlier that evening at 233 Lane 16 when she decided it was time to go home. She drove away from the home with her dog running alongside of the vehicle. Approximately twenty minutes later, several other guests left the party and headed in the same direction as Fairbourn. They discovered her vehicle on Lane 16 unoccupied. They began searching the area and eventually found Fairbourn floating in the canal. They pulled her from the water and immediately began CPR until emergency personnel arrived. She was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m. Deputies discovered canine footprints as well as human footprints at the edge of the canal near the vehicle. There were no signs of foul play. Deputies surmise that Fairbourn’s dog possibly fell into the canal first and that she entered the water in an attempt to rescue the dog. The dog has not yet been located. The Park County coroner has determined the official cause of death to be drowning. #reboot #news
