Man arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle and causing pursuit

A 26-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly leading Cody Police officers on a pursuit through residential areas early this morning. At about 2:14 a.m. this morning, CPD was called to the 100 block of Blackburn Street for a report of suspicious activity and upon arrival, officers located an unoccupied vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the evening on the 1200 block of 12th Street, CPD Public Information Officer John Harris said in a news release. While investigating, subjects inside another a vehicle were exhibiting suspicious behavior, Harris said. "Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the truck when the truck accelerated and fled. Officers engaged in a vehicle pursuit with the vehicle throughout the east side of Cody, to include residential areas near Cougar Avenue, 19th Street and East Sheridan Avenue." Eventually, the truck crashed in a ditch on the 2200 block of Pioneer Avenue, and the driver fled on foot. Ultimately, officers apprehended the man on the 2200 block of Big Horn Avenue. Later officers learned that the truck in the pursuit had been reported stolen from Billings, Mont., on July 16. While CPD has not released the identity of the subject arrested, Park County Sheriff's Office inmate logs indicate that 26-year-old John Johnson was arrested in the same area and time frame by CPD is being held for nine charges: felony Burglary, Reckless Driving, Evading/Eluding Police, Interference with a Peace Officer, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, felony Larceny, Hit & Run - Property Damage, No Driver's License, and felony Buying/Receiving Stolen Property. #reboot #news
