9th Annual Kansas City Restaurant Week shatters record; raises an all-time high of more than $425,000 for local causes
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City named community beneficiary of 2019 Kansas City Restaurant Week, to be held Jan. 11-20, 2019
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 3, 2018) – The totals are tallied, and 2018 Kansas City Restaurant Week (KCRW) presented by Sysco Kansas City was the most successful in the dining event’s nine-year history, raising $427,000 for three local nonprofit organizations: Kansas City Community Gardens, the Kansas City Regional Destination Development Foundation and the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The total represents a 25-percent increase over the 2017 charity total and more than $4.2 million in sales across 193 participating restaurants, all records as well.
Each January, KCRW raises funds for local charities with 10 days of special lunch and dinner menus created by and offered at participating restaurants. Of the total sales from KCRW menus, 10 percent is donated to the nonprofit beneficiaries. KCRW has now raised nearly $2.2 million for local charities since its inception in 2010.
“Receiving our share of the donations from 2018 Kansas City Restaurant Week means Kansas City Community Gardens will be able to expand its reach beyond the 25,000 families we currently serve, as well add to the one million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables our member families harvest each year,” said Courtney Foy, Kansas City Community Gardens director of development and marketing. “Kansas City Community Gardens is so thankful for our partnership this year with Visit KC, Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association, and all of the restaurants that participated in 2018 Kansas City Restaurant Week”
