UW Sports Digest: Cowgirls win over USU; Swimmers top New Mexico, and more

*Here is the weekend roundup of UW and other college sports action from Saturday’s games and matches* *Cowgirl soccer closeout last home match of regular seasons with a “W”* LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 25, 2015) – Sophomore forwards Shaina Ashouri and Kaitlyn Lomsnes tallied goals on Sunday afternoon to help the Cowgirls slide by Utah State 2-1 at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. The victory over the Aggies moved Wyoming to 9-5-4 on the season and 5-4-1 in Mountain West action. Wyoming will face off against Border War rival Colorado State in Ft. Collins, Colo., for its last regular-season match on Friday. The game is set for a 3 p.m. MT start. *UW VB Falls in Four to Boise State* Boise, Idaho (Oct. 24, 2015) – The University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team fell in four sets to Boise State on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls (16-6, 6-4 MW) continuously battled but ultimately dropped the match 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 27-25, 15-25). Wyoming will return home on Thursday to face Nevada at 6:30 p.m. MT. It will look to extend an eight-match winning streak in the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Cowgirls will also welcome San Diego State on Saturday, with the match set to begin at 1 p.m. *Cowgirl Swimmers/Divers Capture Win Over New Mexico* ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Oct. 24, 2015) — Wyoming earned a strong victory over Mountain West rival New Mexico on Saturday afternoon. After the win yesterday against New Mexico State, the Cowgirl swimming and diving team picked up their second victory of the weekend by defeating the Lobos, 170-130 at Seidler Natatorium in Albuquerque, N.M. The Cowgirls will return to action next week in Flagstaff, Ariz., to compete against Northern Arizona and Louisiana State. *Northwest Trappers defeat Central Wyoming* The Central Wyoming volleyball team put up a good fight against nationally ranked Northwest College Saturday in Riverton, losing in 4 sets. Set scores were: 13-25, 26-24, 15-25, 17-25 North West College *Hill Reaches 1,000 yards Rushing, Cowboys Fall to Boise State, 34-14 * BOISE, Idaho (Oct. 24, 2015) – An early deficit for the University of Wyoming Cowboy (1-7 overall 1-3 MW) football team was too much to overcome in a 34-14 loss to Boise State (6-2 overall, 3-1 MW) on Saturday evening in Albertson’s Stadium in Boise, Idaho. The Broncos led 24-7 going into the second half on the way to the win. Sophomore running back Brian Hill made history becoming the fastest Cowboy to reach 1,000 yards rushing in a season. Hill is Wyoming’s first 1,000 yard rusher since Devin Moore rushed for over 1,301 yards in 2008. He becomes the ninth player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. The feat has been accomplished 11 times in school history. He finished the day with 76 rushing yards on 23 carries. He now has 1,061 rushing yards on the season and ranks eighth in single-season rushing yards in school history.
