Maybe some of you have noticed the unusual, but very eye-catching, purplish plants growing around Cheyenne, but what exactly are they?! They are known as *Ornamental Cabbage*, similar to the ornamental kale plant. One of many planted by the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens and its volunteers. "Yes, they are actually cabbage and kale that have been bred to have these colors," stated Shane Smith, Director of Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. According to The Garden Helper
these plants are extremely cold-tolerant and can survive winter
temperatures as low as five degrees Fahrenheit .
"These plants are annuals and will die in winter but they can survive a
number of frosts in the fall and often look good well into November," Smith
