Deputies of Albany County placed on administrative leave following fatal shooting at Snowy Range Ski Area

Yesterday, deputies of the Albany County Sheriff's Office were investigating a report of a possible suicidal subject from Colorado, who was in Albany County. Deputies conducted an extensive search to attempt to locate the subject, and subsequently located the man in his truck, in the upper parking lot of the Snowy Range Ski Area. The man refused to make contact with the deputies and remained in his truck. Deputies placed the ski area on lock down, and requested that everyone remain inside the ski buildings, while the Centennial Department EMS was requested to be staged near the entrance to the ski area. The man then left his truck and approached deputies on foot. After numerous attempts by deputies to end the situation peacefully, the man suddenly charged them armed with a knife. Deputies fired, striking the man. Efforts to provide life saving measures were made by deputies and EMS personnel. The man, identified as John Alan Britton, 28, of Colorado, died at the scene. Albany County Sheriff Dave O'Malley requested the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation to investigate the officer involved shooting. A DCI team have been on scene since yesterday afternoon and an autopsy was scheduled for 11 a.m. today, in Loveland, Colorado. At the conclusion of their investigation, a final report will be delivered to the Albany County Attorney for review. Deputies Matt Donnell, Edward Rosier, Aaron Gallegos, and Adam Dean are on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation, as per policy of the Albany County Sheriff's Office. *Feature photo: Jason Lawrence/Pitchengine Communities* #news #breaking #shortgo
