Firefighters from multiple units respond to two house fires in -8 degree temperatures

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - Firefighters responded to two house fires on West 25th Street early Sunday morning after receiving reports of the fire shortly after 4 a.m. Cheyenne Fire and Rescue arrived at 601 W. 25th St. at 4:25 a.m., and within minutes, first arriving crews from Station 1 assessed that 605 W. 25th St. had substantial fire that had broken out a window on the building's east side, which spread fire up and into the eaves of 601. An aggressive fire attack took place while searches were performed and revealed that there were no victims. Immediately, a unit from F.E. Warren Fire Department and two additional units of Cheyenne Fire and Rescue we're requested due to the negative eight degree temperatures causing problems to trucks, equipment, hose, and personnel. Within ten minutes, the fire was controlled. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours to expose small amounts of hidden fire throughout the walls and ceilings of both houses. No civilians or firefighters were injured. Two cats perished in the blaze.
