PMO partners with First Lady to create a new tool helping parents talk to kids about drugs and alcohol

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - Prevention Management Organization of Wyoming announced that they have partnered with First Lady Carol Mead to create the "How To Talk To Kids About Alcohol and Other Drugs" booklet. The 16-page booklet includes fact-based statistics surrounding alcohol and drug use by youth, conversation starters to have with children of varying ages, as well what to do, and the resources available, if you suspect your child has a issue with drugs or alcohol. The partnership is part of Mead’s two-year-old statewide awareness campaign, Talk Early And Often . “You might not think your kids are listening to you, but they are,” said Steffanie Leicht, MSW, a community prevention professional with the PMO in Cheyenne. Kids are 50 percent less likely to engage in risky drug and alcohol use when taught about the risks and dangers by their parents, according to Leicht. “Conversations are one of the most powerful tools parents have to connect with their kids,” Carol Mead said. “That’s why I encourage parents to use this guide, by knowing the facts – and talking early and often to our kids – we can help them make wise choices for their future.” The booklets are currently being distributed to parents through the Laramie County School District No. 1 and No. 2 or can be downloaded directly here . #shortgo #news
