Cheyenne man dead in crash that closed I-25 for hours

Interstate 25 northbound was closed for approximately nine hours on January 18th near Glendo, Wyoming after a crash involving a commercial truck that was pulling two trailers caused the closure around 11:00 a.m. The crash occurred near mile post 119 northbound on I-25 approximately eight miles north of Glendo. Joseph K. Vansickle, 78 years old from Cheyenne, Wyoming, was driving a 2007 Kenworth commercial truck and pulling two trailers northbound on I-25 when the combination unit initially left the highway to the east. The truck was overcorrected back onto the highway causing the truck to overturn and the trailers to separate. Mr. Vansickle was not wearing his seat belt during the crash. He was pronounced deceased while being transported by ground ambulance to Douglas, Wyoming. A possible medical condition prior to the crash is being investigated as the contributing factor. The northbound lanes of I-25 reopened at 8:00 p.m. Officials are awaiting the final results of the investigation to determine if Mr. Vansickle died as a result of the crash or from a medical emergency which then caused the crash. If it is determined the crash caused the fatality, it will mark Wyoming’s third highway fatality for 2016 compared to eight fatalities on January 18th in 2015. #shortgo #oilcity #county17 #news
