#ThrowbackThursday: 1913 Riot at the 12th Wyoming Legislature

*Cheyenne, Wyo., January 1913 - *Legend has it that a riot broke out at the 12th Wyoming Legislature, on the fourth day of the session, in which Republicans and Democrats "fought hand-and-fist during a 45-minute shouting match," according to WyoHistory . Members of the Wyoming House broke out into physical altercations over who would sit in the speaker's chair, during a tense political battle between Republicans and Democrats fighting for superiority in Wyoming. Although the Capitol building is currently undergoing restoration, the framed picture of the Democratic Party legislators at the time (feature photo), normally hangs in the third floor lobby of the House of Reps. One representative reportedly smashed the photograph over another lawmaker's head, leaving a tear in the photo across the portrait of T. C. Diers, according to WyoHistory. *Feature photo: Gregory Nickerson/Pitchengine Communities* #shortgo #news
