Four Afflerbach archers qualify for 2016 Kentucky tournament

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - Four individual archers from Afflerbach Elementary are gearing up to compete in the 2016 National Archery in the School Program (NASP) Tournament in Kentucky, May 12-14. After qualifying in the virtual state tournament last month, Kaiden Lemmons (5th grade), Lucas McGuire (5th grade), Hedrey Barro (4th grade), and Emily Cantrell (4th grade), are now looking forward to traveling to Louisville in May to individually compete against other archers across the nation. Lemmons placed first in the state tournament, while McGuire took home second, Cantrell placed fourth, and Barro placed eighth. In the school's second year of the program, Tyler Muniz, PE teacher at Afflerbach, has been coaching the four individual archers during the week before and after school to prepare for the competition. "To be able to send four individual archers from out of state in the program's second year is incredible," Muniz said. "These guys have been working really hard to get to where they are now, and I'm very proud of them all." Muniz says funding to the program has allowed the school to cover the tournament fee, plane tickets, and hotel stay, sending all four archers to the upcoming tournament. "This will be my first time flying on a plane," Cantrell nervously said. "But I'm ready to compete!" *Feature photo: Kaiden Lemmons, Lucas McGuire, Hedrey Barro, and Emily Cantrell. h/t photos: (Pitchengine Communities)* #shortgo #news #whatshappening
