Chicken ordinance passed by City Council, educational classes to follow

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - Cheyenne City Council passed an ordinance that allows residents to keep chickens within city limits, Apr. 25. In a 6-4 vote, City Council approved the ordinance on its third reading after opening the floor to public comment, in which many shared their support as well as concerns. Catherine Wissner, A representative with the Laramie County Extension of the University of Wyoming, stated her offices would provide an educational course for residents wanting to learn more on the proper care of the animal, in which she stated "if this gets passed, I'm willing to get the class started in May." Member of the Council that voted to approve the ordinance stated that they are putting their trust into its citizens to responsibly care for these animals so a new or amended ordinance will not have to be considered. #shortgo #news
