Freightliner crash on I80 results in death of Louisiana resident

(Arlington, Wyo.) - A fatal crash on Interstate 80 near Arlington has resulted in the death of a Louisiana resident, April 24. Sherry K. Ohmer, 51, of Morgan City, Louisiana, was the front seat passenger in a 2017 Freightliner commercial truck driven by another individual. At the time of the crash, road conditions were slick with slush and snow had built up on the interstate, speed limits had been reduced from 75 mph to 55 mph in that section of I-80. A separate crash involving two vehicles had all lanes of I-80 westbound blocked, when a nine vehicle chain reaction crash followed the initial crash that had blocked both westbound lanes. The Freightliner that Ohmer was in was the last vehicle involved in the nine vehicle crash. The Freightliner occupied by Ohmer collided with another commercial vehicle in the pile up, resulting in Ohmer sustaining fatal injuries on scene. Both Ohmer and the driver were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Sherry Ohmer marked the 14th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 36 fatalities during this same time period in 2015. #shortgo #news
