Wyoming's State Champion to head to Washington, D.C. for National Poetry Out Loud Competition

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - Lucy Martinez, of Jackson, was announced last month in Cheyenne as Wyoming's State Champion for the 2016 Poetry Out Loud competition. Martinez will now be heading to the National Poetry Out Loud Competition in Washington, D.C. May 3-4, to face more than 50 other state champions at the finals. Martinez will compete for the title of National Champion and a $20,000 prize. A total of $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be awarded to the top nine finalists and their schools, according to the Wyoming Arts Council.
