Amy Simpson announces candidacy for Wyoming Legislature

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - A local teacher has announced her candidacy for Wyoming's 41st house district seat. Amy Simpson, music teacher at Hobbs Elementary and director of the Wyoming National Education Association (NEA), made the announcement last week stating, “We need to ensure that the average Wyomingite has access to necessities like a good paying job, quality education and affordable healthcare,” Simpson said. “Right now, these necessities are not being met as they should and I want to contribute to changing that.” “I’m ready to be a Wyoming legislator,” Simpson said. “This decision is the logical culmination of the 10-year journey that brought me here and I am ready to give it everything I have for the people of this district.” Simpson said diversifying the economy, preserving K-12 education funding and fighting for affordable healthcare will be the focal points of her campaign. “We’re in an economic downturn, certainly, and we need to diversify the economy to provide new jobs, but pulling funding from education is the wrong approach,” Simpson said. “We need to invest in the children of Wyoming as they’ll be the ones to reinvigorate the economy if we give them the opportunity to do so.” For more information on Simpson, visit her campaign page .
