Fatal crash west of Medicine Bow results in death of 26 year old man

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - A fatal crash west of Medicine Bow has resulted in the death of a 26 year old Medicine Bow resident Daniel Sims. The crash occurred at 5:51 a.m. on the 25th near mile post 265 on US Highway 30 approximately seven miles west of Medicine Bow, May 25. Daniel Sims, 26, of Medicine Bow, and a 29 year old Hanna resident, were traveling eastbound on US 30 in a 1998 Ford Escape when the Ford initially crossed over the center line of the highway and onto the westbound shoulder. The SUV was over-corrected to the right sending the vehicle into a spin, resulting in the SUV leaving the highway to the south, tripped and rolled multiple times. Both Sims and passenger were ejected during the crash as they were not wearing their seat belts. Sims sustained fatal injury on scene. Forester was transported by ground ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins where she remains hospitalized. The investigation is ongoing including confirmation of who was driving at the time of the crash. Alcohol and controlled substances are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash that marked the 22nd highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016.
