Volunteers, paint, and brand new mural in downtown Cheyenne

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) - Volunteers from Meridian Trust FCU were out yesterday afternoon helping paint one of two new murals in downtown Cheyenne, June 7. The comic mural in the alley between Sandford's and The Loft Collectibles was created by Chad Blakely, art teacher at Carey Jr. High. Tyler Scott, local artist, is the artist behind the mural above Marv's Place. *Mural in the alley between The Loft Collectibles and Sandford's:* *Mural above Marv's Place just off Lincolnway:* Since starting the mural in early May, volunteer groups from various Cheyenne organizations have been working on the new addition to downtown, and are scheduled until the end of the month to finish work on the painting. Desiree Brothe, with the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), said they have until the June 30 deadline for funds to be used for both murals. "Weather and the outline have been our biggest challenges," Brothe said. "But we're at a point now where we're getting it along and it's been going well." The DDA held a call for artists competition earlier this year for the comic mural and ended up with four different applicants, and four designs, all coming from local artists. "All designs were really strong, Ty was chosen for the breadth he covered," Brothe remarked of the Cheyenne-inspired art piece. "There's still room for anyone interested in volunteering or helping out, but you'll have to be somewhat comfortable being up on ladders," Brothe stated.
