UW Student-Athletes earn MW Scholar honors

The Mountain West Conference announced its 2015-16 Scholar-Athlete Award winners on Friday, and the University of Wyoming had 76 student-athletes named to this year’s team. A league-record 734 student-athletes were honored, including 47 individuals who have achieved a 4.00 or higher cumulative grade point average over two or more terms. The 734 honorees surpassed the previous Conference high of 730 in 2014-15. The breakdown by sport for Wyoming’s 2015-16 MW Scholar-Athletes includes16 women’s soccer student-athletes; 14 in women’s track; ten in women’s swimming; eight in women’s cross country; six from women’s volleyball; six from men’s track; four in women’s basketball; three from men’s cross country; three from women’s golf; two football student-athletes; two from men’s golf and two from women’s tennis. The freshman class led the way with 24 honorees. Additionally, there were 21 juniors, 18 sophomores and 13 seniors who earned the honor this year. Eight student-athletes also carried a 4.0 grade point average. The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
