LOS ANGELES (September 14, 2017) – Award-winning Creator/Director team JESSICA SILVETTI and ETHAN KOGAN explore the eerie side of humanity with their new award-winning anthology web series IN ABSENTIA.
The 5-episode series hits the international circuit heading to London for the 25th annual Raindance Film Festival on September 30th, earning Silvetti and Kogan a Jury Prize nomination for ‘Best Writing’. IN ABSENTIA, first gained attention as a Remi Award Winner at 2017 WorldFest Houston and will screen next in Los Angeles at the Downtown Los Angeles Film Festival (DTLA) on September 24th. Then, In late October, the celebrated series screens in Spain at the Bilbao International Digital Festival, where it’s nominated for three awards: Quill Amets, Top Amets and Unstoppable Amets.
Dark, mysterious and visually captivating, IN ABSENTIA delivers contemporary, dark folk tales that focus on the absence of life’s normal order. Set in the not too distant future, these seemingly unconnected stories serve up a dose of Drama, Suspense, Sci-Fi and Psychological Thriller. Characters are confronted with the absence of both the material and the intangible as a couple’s romantic escapade turns dark, two strangers make a cerebral connection, and a lone woman experiences a world-changing event.
Produced under their Light and Shadow Pictures banner, Silvetti and Kogan set out to craft a uniquely stylized production. To accomplish this, each story brings a distinct color palette integrated into the sets, costumes and character’s world as a way to heighten their emotional components. “A strong nostalgia for classic TV, mixed with our desire to explore where horror and wonder meet, is what really fueled us to make this series,” explains Kogan.
In addition, Silvetti and Kogan brought together a diverse cast from all over the world, speaking in their native tongue, showcasing the universal significance of each story. Silvetti adds, “Today’s content is so easily accessible, it only makes sense to appeal to a global audience. Because after all, fear and imagination is shared by us all.”
A husband-and-wife creative team based in Los Angeles, Silvetti and Kogan have been writing and directing together for several years. Prior to this, Silvetti attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she received a BFA in Theatre; and Kogan graduated from the University of Michigan and trained in London, England at RADA. Their strong backgrounds in theater lead each of them to the respected LA Company, The Actors' Gang. In their first feature film together, PROBLEM OF EVIL (2014), they led a tremendously talented cast into a production where the entire script was dramatically improvised with stellar results. They have gone on to write and direct numerous short films with successful festival runs, including POOR MAN'S MERMAID (2015), for which they won the Remi Award at the WorldFest Houston International Film festival.
