LOS ANGELES (January 30, 2019) – Actress Khalilah Joi stars as the girlfriend of former NFL running back Thomas Q. Jones in the new MMA crime thriller, A VIOLENT MAN, premiering in limited theaters and online on February 8, 2019. Joi also emerges in an upcoming episode of Robert Zemeckis’ new UFO-themed series, PROJECT BLUE BOOK, on the History Channel and in a recurring role on Season 2 of HBO’s celebrated drama, BIG LITTLE LIES.
A VIOLENT MAN follows unknown MMA fighter, Ty Matthews (Jones), who beats the undefeated champion at a local gym and becomes infamous overnight. But when the female reporter covering the story is found dead, Ty becomes the murder suspect; as he was last seen with her leaving a bar late at night. His only alibi is his girlfriend Whitney (Joi), who is aware of him arriving home late that night. A blackout, a dead body, and incriminating circumstances puts Ty in the middle of a mystery.
The film also stars UFC hall of fame legend Chuck Liddell, Denise Richards, Bruce Davison and Issac De Bankolé; and comes from director Matthew Berkowitz, who co-wrote the script with Justin Steele.
Joi was excited at the opportunity to work alongside her co-star on this modern noir project, adding “It was awesome working with Thomas (Jones), someone I’ve known for so long outside of this industry. It was a very cool full circle moment. It made the chemistry so authentic.”

From executive producer Robert Zemeckis, the show stars Aidan Gillan and is based on the real-life, U.S. Air Force-sponsored top-secret investigations into UFO-related phenomena from 1947-70. Joi steps into the action as Vivian Mann, but details about the storyline are being kept under wraps.
