Teen Actress SYDNEY SHIOTANI Debuts in Season 3 Finale of Pamela Adlon’s Celebrated FX Comedy Series ‘BETTER THINGS’
LOS ANGELES (May 3, 2019) – Actress Sydney Shiotani makes her television debut in the Season 3 Finale episode of Pamela Adlon’s award-winning FX comedy series, BETTER THINGS, set to air on May 16, 2019.
Created by Adlon and Louis C.K., BETTER THINGS is a comedy series following Sam Fox (Adlon) as she struggles to balance a busy career in entertainment and the non-stop theatrics of raising her three daughters (Mikey Madison, Hannah Alligood, Olivia Edward) as a single mother. Shiotani steps into the chaos as Obsidian, just as Sam’s parenting skills are being tested once again.
Adlon also directed the episode and Shiotani was thrilled at the chance to work on the show. “The set of Better Things was such a positive work experience. Pamela Adlon established a personal connection with everyone on set. She inspires me to create a similar collaborative and respectful environment for my own future projects," shared Shiotani.
She might only be 17 years old, but Shiotani has already been showcasing her acting talents across multiple mediums. Last fall she hit the festival circuit starring as the reluctant mutant Daphne in the dramatic short, Origin X, about two teens with special abilities whose worlds collide when threatened with the exposure of their secret.
A Southern California native of Japanese, Filipino and Italian descent, Shiotani has been entrenched in the arts while attending the respected Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences, a college-preparatory visual and performing arts high school. While there, she gained high-praise for playing the leading role of Agnes Evans in “She Kills Monsters,” a comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games. Upon graduating this spring, Shiotani plans to head to the east coast to study the craft, pursuing a BFA in Acting from Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts, a highly selective drama program.
Creativity knows no bounds for this rising triple threat talent: actress, singer and dancer. Shiotani is also a self-taught musician, playing five musical instruments by ear, including piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, violin and clarinet. She is also a visual artist and has been accepted to sell her art in the San Diego International Comic-Con Art Show for the last three years.
Sydney Shiotani is represented by JVC Talent Agency, The Parmeter Group, and Pinnacle Commercial Talent.
