Actress HELEN MADELYN KIM Emerges an Uber-Bestie Recurring in Lifetime’s New Dramedy Series ‘AMERICAN PRINCESS’

LOS ANGELES (June 3, 2019) – Actress Helen Madelyn Kim emerges as the sweet but dim-witted uber-bestie ‘Lexi’ recurring in the Lifetime’s new original dramedy series, AMERICAN PRINCESS, which kicked-off on June 2nd.

Created by writer-actress Jamie Denbo, who executive produces along with Orange is the New Black team Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann and Mark A. Burley, AMERICAN PRINCESS follows Amanda, an Upper East Side socialite who runs off to join a Renaissance Faire after her wedding falls apart. Amid the bizarre surroundings, Amanda discovers a whole new world of friendships, rivalries and romance, much to the confusion of her family and haughty besties from back home, including Lexi (Kim).

Kim was thrilled at the opportunity to bring Lexi to life, adding “I usually get seen as someone who’s smart, tough, and has it all together, which is the complete opposite of Lexi. So, playing this character was a lot of fun for me. Even though she’s not the brightest bulb in the room and may come off seemingly easy to play, Lexi is adopted and raised Jewish so I did a bit of research and picked the brains of friends who were born and raised Jewish to have a better understanding of what coming from that kind of a background can be like. They shed a lot of light and were so helpful, which I’m so grateful for. My time of living in NYC also proved to be helpful in channeling Lexi’s Upper East Side background as well.”

Audiences will recognize Kim from her recurring role as Megan in the second season of Marvel’s teen superhero series, Runaways, on Hulu. The show follows a group of teenagers who run away after discovering their parents are super-villains in disguise. Along the way they meet Megan (Kim), a millennial employee working at a PRIDE Foundation Facility. In addition, Kim has appeared in several notable series, including the critically acclaimed Netflix series, Glow, and Freeform’s romantic drama, Famous In Love, alongside Bella Thorne.

Born and raised in Los Angeles to two former musicians, Kim has always had a creative spirit. This Korean American tough cookie with a soft edge first got hooked on acting after gathering enough courage to audition for a summer musical in high school and walking away with the leading role. She went on to earn a college degree in Theatre before heading to New York City to hone her chops at the Beverly Hills Playhouse NY, the People's Improv Theater (The PIT NYC), and performing with improv team Mass Hysteria! Since then, Kim moved back to her hometown to further pursue her film and television career.
