Actress MELANIE HAYNES is Awkward Auntie in Quirky Film ‘ANTIQUITIES’ on SHOWTIME Beginning September 1, 2019
Also Heads to LIFETIME for Holiday TV Movie ‘THE ROAD HOME FOR CHRISTMAS’
According to director/co-creator Daniel Campbell, Haynes delivers some homespun fun in the quirky film, adding “Melanie brought so much charm and vulnerability to Aunt Patty. It was such a critical role in the film and she gave us exactly what we needed Aunt Patty to be. I couldn't be happier with her performance.” She appears in the film along with stars Andrew J. West (The Walking Dead), Ashley Green (Twilight), Mary Steenburgen (Last Vegas) and Michaela Watkins (The Back-up Plan).
ANTIQUITIES tells the story of Walt (West), a young man who moves to his father's hometown after his death in search of learning who his father really was. After arriving, Walt decides to stay with his cumbersome but well-intentioned Aunt Patty (Haynes) and her family, and accepts a job in a local antique mall where his father worked when he was younger. Along his journey, Walt ends up not only learning about his father, but also about himself.
Co-creator/actor Graham Gordy (co-creator of Cinemax series Quarry, Rectify) also shares, "Melanie was tremendous as Aunt Patty. As an actress, she has all the gears, from the saccharine sweetness down to the pained regret of that character. I can't imagine anyone more perfect for it."
Later this holiday season, Haynes heads to Lifetime for the new original TV movie, THE ROAD HOME FOR CHRISTMAS, starring Marla Sokoloff (The Practice), Rob Mayes (Mistresses) and veteran entertainer Marie Osmond. The film follows two rival musicians, Lindsay (Sokoloff) and Wes (Mayes), who suddenly find themselves without a gig on Christmas Eve and decide to road trip to their neighboring hometowns together. Haynes joins-in as Lindsay’s supportive mother, whose only wish is that her daughter makes it home in time for Christmas. The project marks the second time Haynes has worked with director Peter Sullivan, after appearing last year in his original Lifetime holiday TV movie My Christmas Inn.
Haynes has been building a solid resume, splitting her time between Los Angeles and her hometown Houston, Texas. Television audiences will recall her recent appearances as a card dealer on CBS comedy Young Sheldon and opposite Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in season three of HBO drama True Detective. Her television credits also include roles in TruTV’s Adam Ruins Everything, ABC’s The Middle, and WGN America’s Salem.
Her film credits are out of this world, literally. Haynes lent her voice for Sony’s Oscar winning Best Animated Feature film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, along with Nicolas Cage, Hailee Steinfeld, Liev Schreiber, John Mulaney, Mahershala Ali and Lily Tomlin. She has also appeared in several celebrated indie films, including the coming-of-age drama A Country Called Home, the buddy road-trip tale Chasing the Sun and the dramatically touching Heartland.
Haynes earned her Bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate in Theater and English at the University of Houston, and danced for several years with Patsy Swayze’s Houston Jazz Ballet Company. Haynes served on the board of SAG-AFTRA’s Houston Local Branch for 15 years and as the President for two terms. Today, Haynes continues to run her own professional voice over studio which she established back in 2002.
Melanie Haynes is represented by Aqua Talent and Caviar Entertainment; along with Pastorini-Bosby Talent (Houston/Southeast).
