Thermopolis firm wins county's gravel crushing contract

A Thermopolis firm has won the Hot Springs County contract to supply crushed gravel. Big Horn Reddi Mix was the lowest of eight bidders Tuesday when the bids were opened at the county commissioners meeting. Big Horn bid $122,250 to provide 25,000 tons of crushed gravel for the County Road and Bridge Department. Next low bidder was a Pinedale contractor, Big Sky Limited of Wyoming, who had bid $157,500. Other bidders were from Buffalo, Lovell, and St. Anthony, Idaho. "They only have a March 1st to 31st timeline to get the gravel crushed," said Road and Bridge Supervisor Dave Schlager. "They can only mine and crush during that month." Because of that, he urged the commission to award the contract, which they did on a unanimous vote. Before the vote, Schlager reviewed the bid to ensure that it met the county's specifications, that a bond had been submitted and that the local firm was a certified Wyoming Company. *Feature Photo: County Clerk Nina Webber opened the bids and relayed the information to the Road and Bridge Department Supervisor Dave Schlager, seated at right.
