Enhanced data and application of a standard measure to public data sets will make Military Friendly® Schools the most comprehensive, powerful resource for veterans today.
PITTSBURGH (September 29, 2016)—Victory Media, the parent company of the annual time-tested Military Friendly® Schools ratings (https://militaryfriendly.com/) , announced today its intent to publish its 2017 list of colleges, universities and trade schools based upon a standard measure for evaluating institutions on their outcomes for military students. The Military Friendly® School standard will be applied to more than 8,800 institutions that accept federal education benefits for veterans, across the spectrum of degree programs and institution types. Since 2009, Victory Media has spearheaded and evolved the way educational institutions are evaluated for our Armed Forces service members and veterans, growing with the needs of the community and the positive response of schools and companies interested in recruiting military talent.
This year, Victory Media’s list, which will be released in November, will identify the eligibility of schools for the Military Friendly® standard. Three sources of data are used in determining eligibility: publicly available data about the institution; personal opinion data from student veterans; and proprietary Military Friendly® survey data—all establishing new benchmarks based upon a core set of outcome data.
Public data (https://militaryfriendly.com/public-data-sources-schools/) is obtained from the Departments of Education, Veterans Affairs and Defense. Supplementing public data will be survey responses from schools that chose to participate in the proprietary 2017 Military Friendly® Schools survey. Final survey results and ratings are determined by combining an institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet minimum thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans. A review of the methodology can be found onhttps://militaryfriendly.com (https://militaryfriendly.com/methodology-2/methodology-military-friendly-schools-2/) . Schools can also invite their student veterans to take a one-minute survey assessing how well the school is supporting them on campus. Collectively, this new data set will assist Victory Media in identifying all schools’ eligibility for the enhanced standard of what it means to be Military Friendly®.
According to Daniel Nichols, Chief Product Officer of Victory Media and head of Military Friendly® development, “Our ability to apply a clear and consistent standard to the majority of colleges gives veterans the most comprehensive view of which schools are doing the best for them, those working to improve their student veteran services and support, and those not eligible for our designation in 2017. This resource helps military families make the best use of Post-9/11 GI Bill and other federal benefits. In addition, our ability to relate data from colleges and companies allows us to further our goal of assisting transitioning service members in their path to civilian success in chosen career fields.”
The ability to publish colleges and universities across the nation using updated standards will provide prospective military students with clearer guidelines for selecting a school, and help Military Friendly® ensure that only those institutions doing better for veterans receive the Military Friendly® School designation.
The 2017 Military Friendly Schools® list will be released in early November 2016. The methodology for the survey and more information can be found at https://militaryfriendlycom.
