Representative Lloyd Larsen supports legislation that seeks state control of public lands.
I will oppose efforts that attempt to take our public lands away from us. Public lands are owned by all Americans: they are our birthright.
State control would mean we all lose access:
- Past attempts to seize control have intended to sell these lands to the highest bidder.
- If public lands are sold off, we will lose our freedom to hunt, fish, hike, and camp on our favorite places.
- Public land is managed for all of us, not just the select few or special interests. This is our land. Let's keep it that way.
The history of public land transfers to the state is clear: Today, Nevada only owns 3,000 acres of the original 2.7 million acres the state was granted. Idaho and Utah have sold off about half of their state lands. And in Colorado? Only about 20% of state lands are open for hunting and fishing. Public lands provide the access we enjoy for our outdoors quality of life, and they sustain our local economy.
