2 more French natives join Westport Café and Bar as new winter menus launch

French foursome will host a special Mont d’Or Party on Dec. 14 to celebrate a traditional cheese fondue from their hometown of Eastern France 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 30, 2017) – Westport Café and Bar is more authentic than ever before. Nearly six months after Frenchmen Kevin Mouhot and Romain Monnoyeur purchased the Parisian-inspired bistro, Westport Café gains two more French natives: Nicolas Mermet and David Barberat. Hailing from Eastern France, Mermet and Barberat are French-trained chefs and longtime friends of Mouhot and Monnoyeur who bring years of credibility and experience in French cuisine and service to Westport Café. Mermet has joined operations as the new general manager assistant, while Barberat will serve as the new chef de cuisine under executive chef Monnoyeur.

The café, which is known for its modern French fare, is also hosting a traditional Cheese Party, and launching new winter menus that introduce seasonally inspired dishes.

Mont d’Or Cheese Party: Dec. 14

The French foursome is hosting a special Mont d’Or Party to celebrate a traditional cheese fondue from their hometown of Eastern France. The cost is $25 per person and includes a Mont d’Or cheese platter for two served with potatoes and charcuterie. The Mont d’Or Cheese Party is Dec. 14, 5-9 p.m. Reservations are strongly recommended but not required. Winter Menus

Developed by Executive Chef Romain Monnoyeur, the dinner menu unveils five new dishes including a Seasonal Soup and Fish of the Market that will change based on what’s fresh and available locally. The menu also features seasonal updates to existing favorites such as the café’s popular Oysters and WCB Burger. Westport Café and Bar also debuts a seasonal cocktail menu for imbibers looking to sip something new this winter. Created by longtime lead bartender Bronson Kistler, the menu includes two new libations and small modifications to returning favorites.

Nicolas Mermet: General Manager Assistant 

Nicolas Mermet has joined operations at Westport Café as the new general manager assistant and catering manager. His extensive background includes hospitality experience at high-end hotels and restaurants across the world, including The Venetian and The Palazzo in Las Vegas, The Intercontinental in China, and The Beau-Rivage Palace in Switzerland. In his new role at Westport Café, Mermet will oversee front-of-house responsibilities, service, and day-to-day operations under general manager Kevin Mouhot.

David Barberat: Chef de Cuisine 

David Barberat will serve as the new chef de cuisine at Westport Café under executive chef Romain Monnoyeur. A former classmate of Monnoyeur, Barberat brings nearly five years of credibility and experience in French cuisine to the café, including a previous role at Kansas City’s Café Des Amis in 2013. Most recently, Barberat was the chef de cuisine at the world-famous Café Terroir in Lyon, France, which received a Michelin Plate ranking in 2017. Barberat is excited to reunite with Monnoyeur in the kitchen and create new, modern dishes for the café.
