Westport Café and Bar brings modern French cuisine to Kansas City with new seasonal menus

The 4 French natives behind Westport Café introduce 8 fresh new dishes with modern flair


KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 18, 2018) – The four French natives behind Westport Café and Bar unveil new, seasonal menus featuring eight dishes with modern flair. Westport Café also debuts a seasonal cocktail menu with eight refreshing, new libations for local imbibers. Led by executive chef Romain Monnoyeur, the French team consisting of owners Monnoyeur and Kevin Mouhot (general manager), and new French additions Nicolas Mermet (assistant general manager) and David Barberat (chef de cuisine), collaborated on the new menu, bringing their extensive backgrounds in authentic French fare and exceptional service to the table. 

 

About the French Team


Romain Monnoyeur, Co-Owner and Executive Chef: Born into a family of seasoned cooks, gardeners and winemakers in the hills of Lyon, France, Monnoyeur has long been impassioned by the joys of cooking, with special attention given to sourcing the finest ingredients. He brings nearly nine years of professional culinary experience in France and the United States to Westport Café, having served roles at Ducasse in Monaco and Caillebotte in Paris, which was voted best bistro in Paris in 2014.


David Barberat, Chef de Cuisine: Barberat serves as the chef de cuisine at Westport Cafe under executive chef Monnoyeur. In his nearly five years of experience in French cuisine, he has served culinary roles at Kansas City's Cafe Des Amis in Parkville, and La Cour de Loges in France. Most recently, Barberat served as the chef de cuisine at Café Terroir, a world-renowned restaurant in Lyon, France, which earned a Michelin Plate ranking in 2017.


Kevin Mouhot, Co-Owner and General Manager: After earning his degree in marketing and hotel management from the BTS Hôtellerie Restauration, Mouhot went on to gain experience in luxury hotels and fine dining restaurants across Europe and the United States, including the Dorchester Hotel in London and La Marée in Monaco. 

 

Nicolas Mermet, Assistant General Manager: Mermet serves as the assistant general manager at Westport Café, working alongside Mouhot to oversee front-of-house and service operations. His extensive background includes hospitality experience at luxury hotels and fine dining restaurants across the world, including The Intercontinental in Chengdu, China, and the Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne, Switzerland. 


About the Menus 


As French fare continues to evolve in Europe, Westport Café continues to evolve and modernize its cuisine. Inspired by the fare that one would find in a Parisian bistro today, the dinner menu combines Monnoyeur’s years of experience and extensive background in French cooking with a modern twist on the classic cuisine. The new dishes feature a fresh take on traditional French fare while highlighting locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. 


Westport Café and Bar also debuts a seasonal cocktail menu created by longtime bar manager, Bronson Kistler. With nearly a decade of experience developing unique and diverse craft cocktails, Kistler’s seasonal menu features eight new libations utilizing fresh ingredients, herbs and spices, house-made syrups and local liquors. The menu is joined by returning favorites including Kistler’s Restless Spirits award-winning cocktail, the Copper Rabbit.

Happy Hour 

Westport Café and Bar offers happy hour twice a day, every day: an afternoon happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and a late-night happy hour from 10 p.m. to close, Monday through Sunday. The happy hour menu features discounted wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres and entrees including the café’s popular Steak Frites, along with new menu items such as the Country Style Pâté, Fried Salmon Gyozas and Shrimp Beignets.
