Recent Deaths around Fremont County: Kierig, Shoyo Jr.
Dennison Frank Shoyo, Jr., 72, of Fort Hall, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 following a long term illness.
He was born August 3, 1944 at Fort Washakie, Wyoming, to Dennison Frank Shoyo Sr., and Lottie Longhair Shoyo.
In his younger years Frank enjoyed rodeo’s basketball, pow-wow’s, casinos and gambling.
He became a Sundance leader for Ross Fork District with the guidance of the late Andrew Punkin for several years. He was a traditional dancer, in the 60”s he was in a dance club, Pohogoy. He was also a NAC roadman.
Frank enjoyed farming, fishing, ranch work, hunting and riding horses back in the day.
Marcella and Frank raised grandchildren, Comfort Nosho and Angela Nevarez, since they were born.
He is survived by Marieta Stacey, Maxine “Zita” LaRose, Evelita Shoyo, Patricia Shoyo; his children,Michael, Lamelia, Audrey, Francine, Tyrone, Taryn and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Longhair Shoyo, his father, Dennison F. Shoyo Sr., brothers Chuck and Andrew Shoyo; sisters, Joanne, Lenore and Linda Shoyo; his first wife, Esther Wahtomy Shoyo, second wife, Marcella Preacher and an infant son, Elnathan Shoyo.
A viewing will be held at his residence on Siler and Ellsworth Road, Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10 a.m. He will be taken back to Fort Washakie, Wyoming for burial. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. A Wake will be held Wednesday, August 24th at Patricia Shoyo Residence, #5 Shoyo Spur at 7:00 PM. Traditional Indian Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 25th at 10:00 AM at the family residence. Interment will be in the Sacajawea Cemetery. Local services provided by Wind Dancer Funeral Home.
