Wyoming Tourism Wins Awards for Best Website and Most Creative Project Idea
CHEYENNE, WY- The Wyoming Office of Tourism (WOT) was recently honored with two nationally recognized awards. TravelWyoming.com, which is WOT’s new website, won the “2016 Outstanding Website Award” for travel websites given by the Web Marketing Association (WMA). In addition, WOT’s very popular sticker program won a “WOW Award” for Most Creative Idea given by Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI).
According to their website, the Web Marketing Association is the producer of the WebAward Competition. Now in its 17th year, the WebAward program is the longest running annual website award competition dedicated to naming the best web sites in 96 industries, while setting the standard of excellence for all website development. Entries for this award are judged on design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use.
“We are incredibly honored to have our website recognized for this award,” said Diane Shober, Executive Director of the Wyoming Office of Tourism. “Over the past year, we have worked hard to redesign the site to make it more user friendly, more accessible and more inspiring for potential visitors. This award demonstrates that we are on the right track with our new site.”
The WOW Awards were created to recognize exemplary ideas in visitor services, celebrate destination marketing organizations’ creativity, effectiveness and adaptability in servicing the many visitors that experience destinations worldwide. WOT was awarded with the Most Creative Idea for its sticker program. This initiative to strategically distribute stickers at myriad locations statewide encourages visitors to take extra time to travel for these collectibles. An accompanying map highlighting the sticker distribution locations is available to visitors at participating VIC’s (Visitor Information Centers). Partners report increased visitation directly attributed to the sticker campaign, noting that visitors make a point to stop and collect these stickers.
“Visitors and partners around the state absolutely love our sticker program. It’s something tangible for visitors to take home with them as a keepsake of their trip to Wyoming,” Shober said. “For citizens in Wyoming, it’s a way to spread visitors out around the state and have them visit places they may not have stopped in otherwise and it’s provides a sense of pride for people who live in those communities.”
