Local Restaurant Celebrates 40 Years of Success and Community Service with Official Proclamation from Mayor Sylvester Turner Marking October 27 as “Hungry’s Day”

In 1975, Fred Sharifi opened Hungry’s International Sandwich Shop (now known as Hungry’s) in an old bungalow in the Montrose area. Since then, Hungry’s has pioneered the local take-out and delivery market in Houston, expanded to new a new home with locations in Rice Village and Memorial as well as building their portfolio to include NextDoor and Upstairs bars and Baba Yega. Through the changes over the last four decades, one thing has remained the same: Hungry’s has been family-owned and operated with a long tradition of giving back to the community to make Houston a better place to live, work, play, and of course, to eat.

On October 27,  Mayor Pro Tem Ellen R. Cohen will present an official proclamation from the City of Houston to Hungry’s founder and next generation of leadership proclaiming the day as Hungry’s Day with our Rice Village neighbors, business leaders and local officials. Breakfast will be served following the event. Photo opportunities and visual assets available upon request.
